Event Title: PHEHP Section Meeting - Black Health and Wellness: Improving Heart Health in Our Black Communities

Description: Chantelle Ballard from American Heart Association will speak to the PHEHP Section about reducing health disparities and inequities in rural and underserved areas across Oklahoma and how we can work to lower the burden and risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in our local communities across the state.

Speaker Bios:

Chantelle Ballard is the Oklahoma Community Impact Director for the American Heart Association, working to reduce health disparities and inequities in rural and underserved areas across Oklahoma. With a background in Public Health,  she received her Master of Public Health from the University of Oklahoma with a focus on Health Promotion. Work done through the American Heart Association in the Oklahoma City and surrounding areas includes a focus on hypertension, nutrition security and women’s health, creating sustainable resources that help to lower the burden and risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke in our local communities across the state.

Learning Areas: Policy and advocacy

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify ways to reduce the burden of heart disease in women and rural areas in OK.
  • Describe how health policies affect the environment and health equity.
  • Identify access to care for underserved and rural populations.  
  • Understand the link between race, stress and chronic diseases.

Cost of Continuing Education from OPHA

OPHA anticipates requiring a nominal to non-OPHA members per continuing education credit/unit/contact hour at time of registration beginning spring 2024. Date and fee TBA.

OPHA members pay no cost to attend and receive CE credits provided by OPHA. OPHA provides continuing education to Oklahoma CHWs at no cost - thank you for your work improving Oklahoma's communities!

CE Attendance & Evaluation Policy

OPHA offers professional development opportunities and pursues approvals from credentialing bodies to offer continuing education. OPHA strives to meet the standards and competencies of credentialing agencies, and therefore attendance at an OPHA CE event does not guarantee credit. CE-seeking attendees must complete OPHA's Attendance & Evaluation Survey, provided at the conclusion of the event, so that OPHA's Continuing Education Committee can ensure attendance, demonstrated learning, and provide requested CE event certificates to attendees on a quarterly basis. CE credits are ultimately awarded to participant by credentialing agency/body upon event and survey completion and the attendee reporting our provided activities.
