COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER (CHW) SECTION


Meeting Info

OPHA's Community Health Worker (CHW) Section holds 1-hour, virtual meetings on the 3rd Thursday every other from 1:00-2:00 PM and is hosted by co-chairs Dr. Kerstin Reinschmidt and La'Keira DW Jallow. You may register to attend a meeting through OPHA's events calendar.

Section Members

All CHWs and CHW allies who are members of OPHA are welcome to join the CHW Section. Please note the CHW Sections uses the term "CHW" as an umbrella term intended to include a variety of positions and activities. These include, but are not limited to:

        • Community Health Representative (CHR)
        • Case Managers / Case Workers
        • Community Health Outreach Worker
        • Community Liaison
        • Community Organizer
        • Health Educator
    • Health Ambassador
    • Enrollment Specialist
    • Lay Health Advisor

Similarly, the CHW Section also uses the term "CHW ally" as an umbrella term to encompass individuals and organizations including, but again not limited to:

CHW Section Objectives

Policy Development

             1. Develop and support policies for the CHW workforce.

             2. Share best practices and advance institutional, local, state, and national policies that support the CHW workforce.

Leadership

             1. Ensure CHWs have a voice regarding their workforce development

             2. Ensure CHWs have a voice at all levels of public health planning and decision-making tables to improve health outcomes in Oklahoma.

Membership Engagement

             1. Recruit and retain CHWs and CHW allies as members of the section. This will occur through local and regional networks, health networks,                 academic networks, and tribal communities throughout Oklahoma.
