Event Date: Fri. December 1, 2023

Event Time: 10:00 - 11:00 AM

Location: Zoom

Description: We are happy to have Tabitha Narviaz and Katie Qualls with UShine as upcoming speakers. U!Shine is going to speak on their organization as a mental & emotional health non-profit. Their mission is to spark a passion for proactive mental health, promote compassion for others, and build hope for a mentally thriving world.

Speaker Bios: Tabitha Narvaiz & Katie Qualls Fay

Tabitha is an ISFJ, an assertive defender, to her core. She’s worked for Oklahomans as a Congressional staffer, lobbied for the military and transportation industries, worked to better the lives of our service members, veterans, and their families as a government contractor, and helped provide basic necessities to those in need as a nonprofit leader.

Her passion for service extends into her personal life. She serves as a board member for the Junior League of Oklahoma City and is a graduate of the South Oklahoma City Chamber’s TEAM South and the Moore Chamber’s Leadership Moore.

Originally from Tulsa, Tabitha is a Greater Tulsa Christian Academy graduate and bleeds America’s brightest orange as an Oklahoma State University alumna. Tabitha is a wife and dog mom but believes that her most important job is being a mom to her two adopted sons. From them, she’s learned patience, compassion, and the importance of mental health. Having dealt with anxiety and depression herself, she’s learned to navigate the mental health system and advocate for care for her boys.

It’s this combination of experience and passion that motivates Tabitha to end the mental health stigma and ensure every person has access to the tools for mental health care.

Katie Qualls Fay is a proud seventh-generation Oklahoman. She knew she was destined for a career in health education when she was elected to deliver the “Why I Live Tobacco Free” speech at her D.A.R.E Assembly in 6th grade. She works at Goddard Health Center – the on-campus clinic for the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus. She is a health promotion practitioner and adjunct instructor at the University. In her roles, she collaborates with campus agencies, academic departments, student organizations, and administration to provide health education and prevention programming to the campus community. She enjoys teaching undergraduate students pursuing pre-health professions as well as teaching group fitness classes. She is a two-time graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in health. Her graduate research used the Integrative Model to study sleep behavior in college students. Outside of work, Katie volunteers with her sorority as a critical conversation facilitator where she travels to college campuses in the US to lead conversations on sexual assault, alcohol skills, and mental health. She serves on the Board of Directors for UShine – a local nonprofit that provides curriculum to improve mental and emotional well-being for youth and young adults. She lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Evan and dog Duke and attends every home OU football game.
