Description: Erin Martin will speak to us about her program Fresh Rx, a prescription food program that works with doctors to prescribe food as medicine for those with Diabetes. She has exciting new to share that you don't want to miss.
Speaker Bio: Erin's passion for helping others started at fifteen after working in a retirement community. After working on long-term care and serving low-income seniors in HUD housing, Erin saw clearly the inequities in our healthcare system, particularly polypharmacy and processed foods. Erin is a gerontologist, certified in regenerative soil advocacy, director of FreshRx Oklahoma, and the president of the Tulsa Urban Ag Coalition. She's passionate about spreading the gospel of Food is Medicine and its link to soil health.
Learning Areas: Assessment of needs and capacity (e.g. community resources), advocacy and policy, ethics and professionalism
Learning Objectives: 1) Identify a way to help a person overcome cognitive dissonance when it comes to health decisions. 2) Explain how soil and food affects a persons health and can reduce diabetes. 3) Plan on how you can best use or disseminate this program in your area.
