Topic: Emergency Preparedness & Response Section September Meeting

The EP&R Section's September meeting will feature Michael J. DeRemer II, MS and Dr. James Hurst. Michael will be presenting information regarding the structure of the EPRS organization for the state of Oklahoma, discuss how Oklahoma is broken down into regions, number of EPRS teams in Oklahoma and of when and to what events the EPRS teams respond to. Dr. Hurst is a seasoned academic researcher. His current research focuses on the dangers of fentanyl and the incidence of fentanyl overdoses within each county of Oklahoma. Dr. Hurst will be sharing which counties have the highest incidence of fentanyl overdoses. The information will cover years 2019 through 2021.


Michael J. DeRemer II, MS

Oklahoma State Department of Health

Bio: Michael has extensive experience working emergency preparedness and response. Prior to serving in his current two job positions, Michael has worked as an OSDH EPRS Regional Planner, Local Emergency Response Coordinator, Emergency Manager for Indiana University-Purdue University, and also has served as a volunteer firefighter.

 

Dr. James Hurst

Assistant Professor at Northeastern State University

Bio: James Hurst is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology, Justice Studies and Global Security at Northeastern State University. He received his B.A. (2007) in Psychology, M.A. (2014) in Criminal Justice, and Ph.D. (2020) in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. Hurst resides in Tahlequah, OK with his wife and children. They welcomed a new baby daughter, Grace, during this past summer. Dr. Hurst enjoys riding motorcycles and plays the guitar.
